A panel of leaders from the Maine Healthcare community will discuss the journey a recent bill took from conception by a clinician, proposal of bill language through collaboration between professional organizations and legislators, and public testimony at the state capitol. The Director of Advocacy for the Maine Medical Association, the President of American Physical Therapy Association, and the President and CEO of Community Health Options, the third largest insurer in the state will discuss the stages they encountered this bill and the role that health care providers played in supporting or opposing the legislation. They will also address the roles that diverse health professionals play in advocating for change in industry and policy on a local, state, and national level.
Participation is applied toward students’ IP Honors Distinction Application.
Presented in collaboration with: UNE Department of Physical Therapy and the College of Business
“Participating in these discussions across a wide range of healthcare topics helps shape my future practice by strengthening my interprofessional skill set. These conversations support my development as a well-rounded practitioner who can effectively collaborate with other disciplines and empower patients to take ownership of their health and healing journey.”
–UNE Doctor of Physical Therapy Student, ’27, who attended the Nov. 19, 2025 CAIEP Knowledge Exchange in collaboration with the College of Business: ‘Productivity at What Cost? The Business of Interprofessional Healthcare’.
