Competencies: Roles & Responsibilities, Teamwork

From hypertensive retinopathy and papilledema to embolic disease, autoimmune conditions, multiple sclerosis, thyroid eye disease, and infectious disease, the eye can reveal critical signs of systemic illness. This session highlights how optometric findings can prompt timely collaboration with multiple professions.

Participation may be applied toward the Interprofessional Honors Distinction application to earn a nationally recognized digital credential that highlights students’ collaborative team skills for excellence in clinical and community practice. All UNE students are welcome to apply. All requirements must be complete prior to March 1 of students’ graduating year: https://bit.ly/IPHonors

Presented in collaboration with: New England College of Optometry and the Master of Public Health program

“I learned how much interprofessional collaboration is needed and how access is so limited. There aren't many community clinics I know about, so making myself aware of other clinics and providers is important.”

— UNE Dental Hygiene Student, ’26, who attended the Feb. 4, 2026 CAIEP Event: ‘Screens Down, Eyes Up’
