Competencies: Roles & Responsibilities, Teamwork
Your future patients include athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), who face significant, often invisible barriers to quality healthcare—from diagnostic overshadowing to communication gaps. This event will challenge assumptions, uncover implicit biases, and provide you with actionable, team-based strategies to deliver inclusive, high-quality care. Learn how to look past the diagnosis, listen to the athlete, and ensure every patient gets the winning care they deserve.
Participation may be applied toward the Interprofessional Honors Distinction application to earn a nationally recognized digital credential that highlights students’ collaborative team skills for excellence in clinical and community practice. All UNE students are welcome to apply. All requirements must be complete prior to March 1 of students’ graduating year: https://bit.ly/IPHonors
Presented in collaboration with: Maine Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) program
“I learned that there are resources and entities that can ease the transition from pediatric care to self-advocating adult care for patients experiencing a disability.”
