David Pier, D.M.D.

Assistant Clinical Professor

Born and raised in rural northwestern New Jersey, Dr Pier has lived in his second home state of Maine since 1984. He graduated from Bates College with a BS in Chemistry in 1979 and married Karen before the year was over. He received his DMD from Fairleigh Dickinson University School of Dentistry in 1983 and after a General Practice Residency in Morristown, New Jersey, moved to Maine to join Glen Cove Dental Associates. After 20 years of practicing in a group practice, Dr. Pier left to open Mount Pleasant Dental Care in January, 2004. A continuing education devotee, Dr. Pier has completed the Dawson Academy continuum, the Dental Boot Kamp continuum, the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation continuum, is a member of the Seattle Study Club, in 2011 became the first Maine graduate of the Kois Center Continuum, and completed all courses and is certified in the Bioclear system. Memberships include ADA, MDA including serving on the Executive Council and Peer Review Council, AGD, Maine AGD including serving on the Board, AACD, ICOI, DOCS, SDS, and Christian Medical Dental Association. In 2013 he was invited to be a fellow in the International College of Dentists. Dr. Pier has taught courses across the U.S. on communication skills, serving the highly fearful patient, and leadership in the dental office. Along with his faculty position at UNE School of Dental Medicine, he continues to practice at Mount Pleasant Dental Care.
