Donald C. Cannan, Ed.D.

Dr. Cannan has worked in the field of Education for 34 years. He is currently the Executive Director for the Maine Administrators of Career & Technical Education, MACTE. He has worked for University of New England for 20 semesters teaching five different courses in the MSEd & CAGS programs. Don also teaches for Husson University located in Bangor, Maine.

Dr. Cannan has been a teacher, guidance counselor, and administrator in public education. His forte has been aligned to Career & Technical Education and the development of rigorous and relevant programs aligned to 21st Century Skill requirements. He has received numerous awards during his career including; National Educational Leadership Award for his work with “School-to-Work” programs, three-time award winner by the Maine State Board of Education for Making the Grade Award for outstanding leadership, and the Over and Above Award presented by the National Jobs for America’s Graduates Program. Dr. Cannan has trained educators on the international, national, state, and local levels. The major themes of his presentations have been focused on; technology in schools, reinventing high schools, learning styles initiatives, bringing Rigor and Relevance back into the curriculum, and strategies for teaching literacy in the content area.

Dr. Cannan has owned businesses, was a Naval Officer, and is a licensed engineer. He enjoys fishing, hunting, exercising, and all outdoor sports. He and his wife Betsy have four grown children and three grandchildren and live in the hills of Minot, Maine.
