I have had the opportunity to conduct projects in public health as a principal investigator and have worked at hospitals in the United States and several other countries (including India, Thailand and the Caribbean). In particular, I have worked in the field of infectious diseases (HIV/AIDS), women’s health, tropical medicine (lymphatic filariasis), eradication programs and behavioral sciences. My paper on 'Lymphatic Filariasis and the Women of India' (based on my field research) was the winning paper of an international competition on gender and tropical diseases and received an award from the World Health Organization (Geneva, Switzerland) and the International Development Research Center (Ottawa, Canada). For my research on lymphatic filariasis, I was nominated to Sigma Xi (honor society for scientists) by the Smith College faculty. My doctoral dissertation is entitled 'A Study of Knowledge, Attitudes and Reported Practices on HIV/AIDS amongst General Practitioners in Calcutta, India'. For my research on HIV/AIDS in India, I was nominated to Delta Omega (honorary society in public health) by the UCLA faculty.
