Richard A. Castro, D.H.Sc, MSBI, RRT-ACCS
Dr. Richard Castro is an experienced healthcare professional/instructor with a demonstrated history of working in both the hospital and academia. Dr. Castro, skilled in healthcare informatics, electronic medical records, healthcare information technology, has a strong interest in telemedicine.
Dr. Castro’s healthcare experience is in respiratory therapy, which he continues to practice as a COPD educational coordinator at a county hospital in Southeast Florida. He also has had experience in the hospital’s clinical informatics department as a clinical analyst and continues to assist the hospital as an EMR safety star on an as-needed basis. Dr. Castro’s traces his IT experience back over 25 years ago when he worked in the corporate office of a pharmacy chain doing software and hardware support for the company’s pharmacy prescription system.
Dr. Castro’s education spans a period of approximately 30 years, beginning with a Bachelor’s in Finance from the University of Miami in 1989. Next, he received a Bachelor’s of Science in Respiratory Care from the Medical College of Georgia in 1997. Dr. Castro returned to school to merge his two great loves, computers, and healthcare: he graduated with a Master’s in Biomedical Informatics from Nova Southeastern University in 2010. In 2016, he graduated from Nova Southeastern University’s Doctor of Health Science program.
