Inspiring

Your UNE experience begins on our waterfront campus in Biddeford where the Saco River meets the Atlantic Ocean, then shifts to our suburban campus in Portland.

Stimulating

While in Biddeford, you participate in coursework and campus events designed to make you a well-rounded thinker with a backing in the liberal arts. You enjoy the recreational opportunities and inspiration of the coast. You form close relationships with students preparing for careers in a broad range of disciplines through the more than 60 student clubs we offer, and you participate in and watch intercollegiate and intramural athletics.

Engaging

Later, you shift to our Portland Campus, where you belong to a community of undergraduate, graduate, and professional students passionate about the health sciences. With our interprofessional approach, you work and learn beside other students also aspiring to careers in a variety of health fields, gaining mastery of your discipline as you gain a fuller understanding of how your work will combine with the work of other professionals to meet the needs of patients.

Welcoming

You venture into Portland for entertainment, dining and cultural enrichment, but most importantly to perform internships and clinical rotations at Maine’s leading medical facilities. With a population of 66,000, Portland offers the energy, diversity and vibrancy of a modern metropolis, together with quaint cobblestone streets, historic architecture, and biking and walking trails along the waterfront.

In 2010, Portland was ranked among the top 20 most livable small cities for college students by the American Institute for Economic Research, and Outside magazine named it the East Coast's best place to live for outdoor sporting and overall quality of life. In 2014, Green Living magazine called Portland the "healthiest urban center" in the U.S., citing its "doctors per capita" and "smogless skies."

Small and friendly though it may be, Portland is the largest city in Maine. This makes it a hub of medical activity. People from across the state visit Portland for medical services, and often their needs are met by UNE students.
