Coastal Health Communities Coalition selected for Governor's Council on Physical Activity award

The Maine Governor's Council on Physical Activity selected Coastal Healthy Communities Coalition (CHCC) as a winner of a Contest for Communities Award for the coalition's "Walk 100 Miles in 100 Days" Program.

The CHCC is a program of the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine.

The "Walk 100 Miles in 100 Days" Program is in it‚Äôs eighth year and runs annually from late spring to early fall.  It is a free community, school and worksite-based walking program aimed at increasing peoples level of physical activity and helping to support those who are already active. 

Last year, more than 200 community members and businesses registered for the program.  This self-paced program runs this year from June 9 through September 18.  All participants receive weekly health or motivational tips, and upon completion of the program receive an incentive prize.

Coastal Healthy Communities Coalition is a Healthy Maine Partnership site funded to do community-based chronic disease and substance abuse prevention work. They serve the communities of Biddeford, Saco, Old Orchard Beach, Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, Arundel, Dayton, Buxton and Hollis. CHCC is funded in part through the Fund for Healthy Maine, Maine’s share of the tobacco settlement dollars, through a grant from the Maine Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
