Douglas Kay presented prestigious award at Maine Pharmacy Association Annual Meeting

At the Annual Fall Conference of the Maine Pharmacy Association held in Bangor September 10-12, Douglas H. Kay, Ph.D., executive associate dean of the University of New England's College of Pharmacy,  was presented the "Bowl of Hygeia" - one of the pharmacy profession's most prestigious honors.

The award is presented annually by participating pharmacy associations in the U.S. and Canada.  Recipients are selected by their respective associations for their outstanding record of community service.

Dr. Kay is a Massachusetts College of Pharmacy graduate who has distinguished himself through his dedication to family and community.  In July 1998, he retired as dean of the School of Pharmacy at Duquesne University after a 40-year career in pharmacy education.

In 2007, he was appointed special assistant to the dean of the College of Pharmacy at UNE.  Later, he served as dean of UNE's College of Pharmacy, welcoming the first cohort of students in the fall of 2009.  He continues to serve the College of Pharmacy as executive associate dean.

The "Pfeizer Bowl of Hygeia" is the most widely recognized international symbol of pharmacy and derives from Greek mythology.
