Independent Research Grant Awarded to College of Pharmacy

UNE has been awarded a one-year grant in the amount of $72,000 from the Gustavus and Louise Pfeiffer Research Foundation of New Jersey.

John V. Schloss, Ph.D., professor and chair of UNE's Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, will serve as the principal investigator on, Urinary Thiamine Metabolites as a Non-invasive Biomarker of Deficiency and Various Disease States

"This award would not have been possible without the core facility built with funds from the Maine Technology Asset Fund," said Prof. Schloss, who also serves as principal investigator for the MTAF 1016 grant.  "The funding from MTAF has also made it possible to attract federally-funded investigators to our new program, such as Prof. Karen Houseknecht and Dr. Dan Selvage, as well as other outstanding research faculty that includes Drs. Ron Hills, Olgun Guvench, Steven Sutton, and Robert Zeiler."

The MTAF grant of $4 million in August 2008 was used to complete research laboratories for UNE's Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and purchase capital equipment.
