IPEC and Add Verb Collaborate for Student Orientation

Orientation for UNE’s Portland campus on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 brought together students from the college of health professions and the college of pharmacy to discuss domestic violence and sexual assault, the roles and responsibilities of health professions, and its impact on health.

The day began with a dramatic reading of “You The Man,” written and directed by Cathy Plourde, Executive/artistic director of Add Verb and performed by UNE students, faculty, staff and administrators. Representatives from Family Crisis Services and Sexual Assault Response Services of Southern Maine and Professor Amy Coha from the school of social work were on hand to answer students’ questions about local services.

The morning’s event, developed by WCHP’s InterProfessional Education Collaborative (IPEC), was the first in a series designed to demonstrate the benefits of interprofessional communication and teamwork to address difficult healthcare issues. IPEC and Add Verb will be collaborating on a number of health-related workshops over the course of the 2010-2011 school year. Other programs developed by IPEC can be found on the Interprofessional Events Calendar on the UNE Website.
