UNE's Coastal Healthy Communities Coalition kicking off award winning community based physical activity program

Coastal Healthy Communities Coalition (CHCC) would like to invite those who have not yet signed up to participate in the 10th Annual Walk 100 Miles in 100 Days program.  Walk 100 Miles in 100 Days strives to motivate people to get and stay active, while promoting physical and mental health and wellness through walking and other forms of physical activity.  This self-paced program starts May 3rd and runs through August 10th.

CHCC challenges community members to grab a friend or colleague and go for a walk.  You just need to keep track of how far you walk, each time you walk.  The goal is to have all physical activity during the 100-day period add up to at least 100 miles.  During the program, participants will keep track of their own progress and report back at the end of the 100 days. A conversion chart is available that allows you to include other forms of physical activity towards your walking miles.  Each participant will receive a log card to record their mileage and weekly health and wellness tips. Incentive prizes will be distributed to all who reach the 100-mile goal.

Area organizations are offering participants the opportunity to do the first mile together. The University of New England will be holding Walk 100 kick-off event on Monday, May 3rd at 12 noon on the Biddeford campus.

CHCC is a community-based health promotion coalition working to promote tobacco and substance abuse prevention, healthy nutrition and physical activity in the communities, schools and worksites of Arundel, Biddeford, Buxton, Dayton, Hollis, Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, Old Orchard Beach, and Saco. Anyone living or working in these communities is invited to participate in this walking program. CHCC is a local Healthy Maine Partnership and a program of the University of New England, College of Osteopathic Medicine.
