Exhibition of landscape paintings by Cornish artisit J. David Deal to open at UNE's campus center

Landscape paintings by J. David Deal of Cornish, Maine, will be on exhibit at the University of New England Campus Center, Biddeford, from May 1 to June 4, 2012.

Deal received his BFA from Louisiana Tech University in 1978 and his MFA in 2012 from Marywood University in Scranton, PA. His MFA studies re-awakened his love of painting and drawing, which over the past 35 years had been given a backseat to his graphic design career.

His appreciation for landscape comes from being raised in many different areas as a child. The rocky New England coast, the deep forests of Louisiana, and the wide open skies of the west all have a place in his aesthetic development.

As a landscape painter, David states, "I feel that being a part of the landscape is important to the energy of the painting. Feeling the sun and wind, the dust and the bugs, chasing the sun and waiting on the clouds, are all part of how the paint meets the canvas. I hope that when you view my work you get a sense of the moment that I have captured."

Having painted with watercolors for many years, he recently turned his focus to oils and canvas. His paintings have appeared in several group shows in Dallas, Texas, and Portland, Maine and are included in a number of private collections. He says, "I look forward to seeing where my paint box takes me in the coming years."

The exhibit is free and open to the public.  UNE's Campus Center is located at 11 Hills Beach Road, Biddeford, Maine.  Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.  For more information, contact Diane Noble at dbmn27@maine.rr.com.
