Shayna Shackford and Heather Hassett complete AFAR Medical Student Fellowships

Shayna Shackford (MS III) and Heather Hassett (MS II) were both awarded the very competitive and prestigious American Federation for Aging Research (AFAR) Medical Student Fellowship this summer. For eight weeks, Shayna and Heather worked side by side with top research mentors at Johns Hopkins Medical School. Additionally, they participated in grand rounds and patient care.

Shayna's research was in the field of dementia, and Heather focused her project on physical function of older adults. They graduated from their fellowship on July 25th.  Director of Geriatric Education and Research Marilyn R. Gugliucci, Ph.D., is their home institution research sponsor.
