Wes Zemrak to serve as residency preceptor of pharmacy residency program at Maine Medical Center

Maine Medical Center was awarded a $40,000 grant from the foundation of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) to launch a Post-Graduate Year 2 (PGY2 Critical Care Residency) directed by Gil Fraser of Maine Medical Center. UNE College of Pharmacy Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice Wes Zemrak was a contributing author on the grant and will be serving as a residency preceptor.

This postgraduate residency partnership between MMC and UNE is vital because there is a shortage of pharmacy residency programs in northern New England. Vermont has one accredited PGY2 program at Fletcher Allen. New Hampshire has only one PGY2 program, which is in pre-candidate status at Elliot hospital. The new MMC-UNE residency will be the first accredited PGY2 program in the State of Maine.
