David Smith publishes in ‘Philosophy Compass’

David Livingstone Smith, Ph.D., professor of philosophy, published an article in the current issue of Philosophy Compass.

The article, titled "Dehumanization, essentialism, and moral psychology," presents a critique of mainstream social psychological theories of dehumanization.

Smith defines dehumanization as the stance of conceiving other human beings as subhuman creatures. He criticizes the theories of dehumanization developed by Jacques-Philippe Leyens and Nicholas Haslam and offers a more satisfactory approach to understanding dehumanization.
