David Smith quoted in ‘Sydney Morning Herald’ article on lying at work

David Livingstone Smith, Ph.D., professor of philosophy, was quoted in the November 14, 2014 issue of Australian newspaper the Sydney Morning Herald in an article on lying in the workplace.

Smith, author of Why We Lie: The Evolutionary Roots of Deception and the Unconscious Mind, believes that an ability to deceive others was a selected trait in the evolution of human beings and that, therefore, lying is, in essence, in our DNA.

The article quotes Smith’s explanation that lying to oneself soothes "many of the stresses of life, but, more importantly, it also helps one lie to others."
