University of New England partners with The Alzheimer's Association, Maine Chapter for the Volunteer Scribes Project

The Alzheimer's Association, Maine Chapter is partnering with the University of New England, the University of Southern Maine, and Bates College to identify student volunteers to work with individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias, and their care partners on a writing project.

The student volunteers will act as scribes for the participants and their care partners, interviewing them and writing their life stories within the Alzheimer’s Association’s Legacy Writers Groups. This effort is being called the Volunteer Scribes Project.

Student and faculty responses from each participating school “has been very enthusiastic,” said Mark Pechenik, Project Director for the Volunteer Scribes Project. “We are so pleased and grateful that these students will be joining us as volunteer scribes.”

In particular, Pechenik thanked University of New England faculty members Marilyn Gugliucci, Kelley Strout, Donna Hyde and Regi Robnett.
