College of Pharmacy faculty and students participate in annual New England Pharmacists' Convention 2015 Pepto Bowl

College of Pharmacy Class of 2016 students Adrian Tsui and and Katie Cunniff represented the University of New England at the 2015 Pepto Bowl Competition, held at the New England Pharmacists Convention on September 24, 2015, in Foxborough, Massachusetts. Pharmacy student Brian Park attended the competition as an alternate participant.

The Pepto Bowl is an annual competition that requires fourth-year Pharmacy student (P4) teams of two to collaborate on answers to written questions regarding self-care/over-the counter pharmacy products and drug therapy recommendations. In the final round, the top four teams compete for the winning title by answering “Jeopardy”-style questions.

UNE’s student team was among eight New England groups to complete the written examination in the morning, which is used to select the teams that will advance to the final round in the afternoon.

Lisa Pagnucco, B.S. Pharm., Pharm. D., BCACP, assistant professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice at UNE served as a judge for the competition and also worked with other college faculty members to review questions for the written exam. “The students were very professional throughout the trip and every opportunity was seized to continue their learning,” she commented.

The Pepto Bowl counts toward Continuing Education credits for conference attendees, as each question’s answer is reviewed in detail for audience-education purposes.
