COM student Travis Bouchard and relatives interviewed by ‘Bangor Daily News’ on family tradition of studying medicine

On September 8, 2015, the Bangor Daily News featured an article about the family of Travis Bouchard, a third-year medical student in the College of Osteopathic Medicine -- a family that lays claim to three generations of medical providers.

Bouchard’s grandmother was the first family nurse practitioner in Aroostook County, Maine, in 1978. His mother is a certified nurse midwife and his aunt a registered nurse. Bouchard followed in their footsteps in pursuing a medical career.

“Having them all as family members really gave me exposure to the field of medicine,” Bouchard said in an interview with the newspaper. “I’ve seen the sacrifices they make on a daily basis to meet the needs of their patients, [and] now I’m living it and going through it myself.”

The three women, all of Stockholm, Maine, were also interviewed and reminisced about how various facets of medicine have changed over the years.
