HuMED program featured in article from American Osteopathic Association

A new collaborative program between the College of Osteopathic Medicine and the College of Arts and Sciences was featured in an article about efforts to make medical schools more well-rounded.  In a July 13, 2015 article from the American Osteopathic Assocation’s news website, The DO, the University of New England’s HuMED program was touted for its focus on the humanities in medicine.

The HuMEd program encourages undergraduate students studying the humanities to attend medical school by including research and clinical shadowing in their course work. “These students will not only acquire the knowledge necessary to begin medical school but will also contribute, through their work in the humanities, to meaningful change in the delivery of health care on a personal or systemic basis,” said Jeanne Hey, PhD, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
