‘Marketplace’ article recalls David Beseda’s role in New York’s Right to Shelter policy

David Beseda, M.S.W., adjunct faculty member in the Department of Society, Culture and Languages, was mentioned in a September 30, 2015 article in “Marketplace,” the online site of the “Marketplace” radio program featured on National Public Radio (NPR).

The article, “Behind New York’s Right to Shelter policy,” mentions Beseda’s role in the 1979 law suit brought against the governor of New York for failing to provide “care and support of the needy” in the form of shelter in New York City – a case that resulted in the Right to Shelter policy.

According to the article, Beseda provided testimony about the inhumane conditions of New York City shelters that was so powerful, it spurred New York City officials to negotiate a solution.
