News sources highlight UNE’s commencement ceremony

Several media outlets reported on the University of New England’s commencement ceremony, held May 16, 2015, at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland, at which Anna Eleanor Roosevelt, CEO of Goodwill Industries of Northern New England and granddaughter of Franklin D. and Eleanor Roosevelt, addressed more than 1,400 graduates.

The Portland Press Herald noted that approximately half of the graduates had decorated their mortarboards in an attempt to personalize the ceremony and reflect their individual values and interests. In its online version of commencement coverage, the Press Herald included video footage of Roosevelt’s speech in its entirety.

President Danielle Ripich's message to students was quoted in a Journal Tribune article: "Find a way to merge your personal expertise, educaiton, ambition and the capacity you possess to brighten the lives of others," she said. "Strive not only to do well but to do good."

WMTW aired television coverage of the ceremony, noting that bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees were granted.

Maine Public Broadcast Radio (MPBN) reported on UNE’s commencement as well, referring to it as "one of the biggest graduation ceremonies of the season."
