Clay Graybeal, Ph.D., professor in the School of Social Work and Sarah Breul, director of the Coastal Health Communities Coalition, have been elected as the chair and vice-chair, respectively, of the York District Public Health Council (YDPHC). Formed in partnership with the Maine Center for Disease Control, the YDPHC is a representative, district-wide body that engages in collaborative planning and decision making for essential public health services at the district level.

Through their positions, Graybeal and Breul will provide leadership in community-based public health initiatives and contribute to ensuring a strong public health infrastructure. They will also connect the YDPHC with UNE, presenting an opportunity for faculty to apply their expertise and for students to gain practical public health experience.

“This new opportunity,” Graybeal said, “will help to demonstrate UNE’s ongoing commitment to identifying and addressing local public health priorities.”
