On April 27, 2016, UNE’s College Community Mentoring Program (CCMP) received the President’s Campus Leadership Award from Maine Camus Compact. The club was selected as this year’s winner by President Danielle Ripich.

Recipients of the award must use service as an integral part of the college experience for students, utilize innovative approaches to enhancing campus-based efforts to address community issues and needs, sustain their work by developing strategies to integrate into the institution’s structure, and have a deep, widespread impact on both the campus and the community.

Over the past semester, CCMP engaged 40 UNE mentors and 93 local children in weekly mentoring relationships. The club volunteered at the UNE Brain Fair, inviting mentees and other students from Thornton Academy Middle School and Loranger Middle School to attend. The club also co-hosted a brain related activity at the event with members of America Reads America Counts tutors. In addition, CCMP mentors raised more than $200 from local bake sales.
