Dora Anne Mills, M.D., M.P.H., FAAP, UNE’s vice president for clinical Affairs and director of the Center for Health Innovation, discussed concerns of the Zika virus on WCSH following an outbreak of the infection in south Florida.

Mills noted that the breed of mosquito spreading the Zika virus is not known to survive in Maine’s climate. However, she urged people to exercise caution when visiting areas where the virus is actively circulating. In particular, pregnant women and their partners should take precautions if they are visiting an area of ongoing Zika virus transmission.

Mills also took questions from viewers during a live question and answer session.
