Tamara King published in ‘The Journal of Pain’
Tamara King, Ph.D., assistant professor in the University of New England’s College of Osteopathic Medicine, published an original research paper in the peer-reviewed journal of the American Pain Society, The Journal of Pain.
The paper, titled, “Central Sensitization and Neuropathic Features of Ongoing Pain in a Rat Model of Advanced Osteoarthritis” examines underlying biological mechanisms of NSAID resistant osteoarthritis pain. The research lays the foundation for future research examining alternative therapeutic options for improved pain management for these patients.
The research project was performed by a number of former undergraduate students in the College of Arts and Sciences. The lead author, Joshua Havelin ‘11 is currently a graduate student in the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and Engineering Program and works in King’s laboratory at UNE. Ian Imbert ‘12 obtained a master of public health degree (MPH) at UNE in 2015 while working as a senior research technician and laboratory manager in King’s laboratory. Jennifer Cormier is currently a PharmD student at UNE’s College of Pharmacy. Joshua Allen ’15 is a first year medical student at UNE’s College of Osteopathic Medicine.
