Ed Bilsky demonstrates the power of a deadly street drug

Edward Bilsky, Ph.D., University of New England vice president of Research and Scholarship and professor of pharmacology, was interviewed by NECN about a deadly drug making its way through New England.

Carfentanil is 10,000 times more potent than morphine. First responders in York Beach, Maine recently revived a patient who they believe had taken the opioid. It took six doses of Narcan to resuscitate him. Bilsky demonstrated the potency of carfentinal by using a safer similar but safer substance to weigh what would be considered a nonlethal dose, and compared it to what would likely be a nonlethal dose of heroin.
