Back-to-back wins at home as UNE men’s hockey beats Bowdoin, U.S. National Under-18 team

The University of New England men’s ice hockey team is celebrating two back-to-back wins at home after defeating Bowdoin 6-4. The win comes just days after the Nor’easters defeated the U.S. National Under-18 Team, 5-2.

The victory against Bowdoin on January 10, 2017 was streamed live by WCSH 6. Trailing 4-2 heading into the final period, the Nor’easters roared back for victory with four unanswered goals in the third frame. The game was played in front of a near-capacity crowd of 780 as UNE hosted local school children from Biddeford, Dayton and the St. James School.

On Saturday, January 7, 2017 the exhibition game against the U.S. marked the first time an NCAA Division III team had beaten the U.S. since October 2014. The team also played Boston University, Harvard, and the University of Maine on the four game tour, beating Maine 6-2. The historic win happened before a packed crowd at the Forum. A crowd of graduate students traveled to Biddeford from UNE’s Portland Campus to cheer on the Nor’easters.
