Charolotte Esancy (Medical Biology, ’18) recently gave a poster presentation as a first author in Washington, D.C., at the annual meeting of the Society for Neuroscience (SFN), held November 11-15.

Her poster was titled "Visualization of P2Y1 reporters in peripheral tissues and sensory neurons and changes in response to injury." The project examined the distribution of the P2Y1 receptor in several different types of tissues.

This was the second year that Esancy presented at the annual event. “Being able to present at the Society for Neuroscience annual conference in D.C. as both a first author and an undergraduate is an amazing opportunity,” she shared. “Having presented at SFN last year, both my knowledge and confidence increased dramatically and I believe, that as a presenter, I was better able to communicate with those that visited my poster as compared to last year.”

Esancy has worked with Derek Molliver, Ph.D., associate professor in the College of Osteopathic Medicine, as her mentor since the spring of her freshman year. “As I graduate in the spring, the skills and professional relationships that I have developed here will help to further my success in the next chapter of my life,” Esancy said. “I am very grateful for all of the opportunities that the University of New England has been able to provide for me and especially thankful towards Dr. Derek Molliver who has allowed me explore this interest of mine for the past three years.”
