The University of New England Office of Alumni Advancement partnered with UNE resident advisors to host the second annual, “AbNormal Cases: Perspectives Across the Fields of Healthcare.” The event serves as an opportunity for UNE Alumni to present one of their most unique cases to current UNE students to give them a taste of some of the rare circumstances they may experience in their fields of study.

More than 50 undergraduate students attended this year’s event. Each alumni speaker presented a case, providing context to explain their role in health care and how it overlaps with other health professionals. Speakers each highlighted when and where they interact with other health professionals in the care of their patients. Students were given an opportunity to ask questions between each case, and several students remained after the presentation to meet the speakers and ask more specific questions about graduate programs and various other topics.

Health professionals from various fields were selected to showcase a variety of medical careers students can pursue. Featured presenters included Kate Carlson, PharmD ’13; Michael Conte, D.O., assistant clinical professor; Chelsey Valentine Helmke, M.S.W. ’15; and Danielle Wood ’10, PA-C.

The student planning committee was comprised of nine resident advisors: Wren M. Burton ’17, Shannon P. Leavey ’17, Nathan M. Oakes ’17, Aaron M. Thibeault ’17, Christina M. McLaughlin ’18, Thomas A. Morin ’18, Emily G. Fellows ’17, Louanntha M. Benoit ’19 and Autumn R. Stupca ’19.
