Vasiliki Maseli and Molly Anne Kalish

Molly Anne Kalish (CDM, ’18) was awarded first place in the pre-doc category of the Yankee Dental Congress Student Poster Session, held January 28 in Boston.

The event brought together students from Tufts, Harvard, the University of Connecticut and Boston University, who presented their research to a panel of judges. Kalish’s research focused on the prevalence of tooth decay in Maine, particularly in the adult population. In collaboration with advisor Vasiliki Maseli, D.D.S., M.S., FIADFE, assistant clinical professor in the College of Dental Medicine, Kalish collected information with the objective of gaining insight into cavity prevalence in the adult population. Based on their sample set, Kalish and Maseli found that overall index of people with decayed, missing and/or filled teeth was greater than the national index, thus indicating a need for better oral care in Maine.
