On November 11, 2017, Anouar Majid, Ph.D., vice president for Global Affairs, was declared peace ambassador at the gala reception concluding the Ibn Battuta International Festival in Tangier, Morocco. The festival is named after Tangier native, famous medieval traveler and scholar Ibn Battuta.

Later that month, Majid gave the closing keynote lecture at Theatre Forms in Motion, an international conference held at UNE’s Tangier Campus. In his talk about the opportunities of global studies and globalization, Majid used various examples detailing the ways we have all become globalized and why a conscious adoption of a global mindset could help make the world a better and safer place.

Majid’s talk was attended by prominent playwrights and scholars from around the world, including Nigeria, Iraq and Algeria, as well as a few European nations. Members of the audience were fully engaged in the conversation during the lecture's Q & A session. The event concluded with Majid receiving a token gift from the organizers of the conference and a group photo with the playwrights and scholars.
