David Livingstone Smith, Ph.D., professor of philosophy, has given talks on philosophy, politics and Trump at University of California, Riverside and the University of Pennsylvania.

Smith spoke about “The politics of salvation: ideology, propaganda, and race in Trump's America" before leading a panel discussion at the University of California, Riverside. In the first part of his talk, Smith discussed Trump’s rhetoric, arguing that Trump’s speeches follow the same pattern of Money-Kryle’s Psychology of Propaganda. In the second half of his talk, Smith spoke about Trumpism, ideology and philosophy.

At the University of Pennsylvania, Smith addressed “The Politics of Salvation” as part of the university’s conference on “Trump, Philosophy, and American Politics: Philosophical Implications of the 45th Presidency.” This event brought together scholars to discuss issues raised by the election, the transition from the Obama Administration to the Trump Administration and the early days of the Trump presidency.
