UNE’s Rashidah Wiley published in prominent oral surgery journal

Rashidah Wiley

Rashidah Wiley, D.D.S., assistant clinical professor in the College of Dental Medicine, has been published in the July 2017 issue of the Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology Journal (OOOO).

In the study, Wiley and her colleagues analyzed four types of tumors of the tongue and salivary glands. They sought to assess whether tumors originally classified as adenocarcinoma not otherwise specified (Adca-NOS), adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC), and polymorphous low-grade adenocarcinoma (PLGA) could be reclassified as cribriform adenocarcinoma of the tongue and minor salivary gland (CATMSG).

Tumors diagnosed between 1992 and 2014 at Oral Pathology Laboratory, Inc. (New York Presbyterian Hospital) were selected for the study. Based on the histologic features and immunohistochemical (IHC) staining results of the tissue, Wiley and her team were able to reclassify 10 tumors (8 Adca-NOS and 2 PLGA) as CATMSG.

Wiley’s co-authors in the study were Aditya Kalgi, D.D.S., Renee Reich, D.D.S., and Paul Freedman, D.D.S.

The OOOO is a preeminent journal in the fields of oral surgery, oral medicine, oral pathology, oral radiology or advanced general practice dentistry. It is the only major dental journal that provides a practical and complete overview of the medical and surgical techniques of dental practice in four areas. Topics covered include such current issues as dental implants, treatment of HIV-infected patients and evaluation and treatment of TMJ disorders.
