Barry Costa-Pierce gives presentation at Atlantic Canada’s premier aquaculture research conference

Barry Costa-Pierce, Ph.D., Henry L. & Grace Doherty Professor of Marine Sciences and executive director of UNE NORTH: Institute for North Atlantic Studies, recently represented the University of New England in Canada at the Atlantic Canada Fish Farmers Association’s Aquaculture Forum in St. Andrews, New Brunswick, Canada.

Billed as Atlantic Canada’s premier aquaculture research conference, the event featured national and international expert presentations on industry trends, opportunities and innovations in the aquaculture industry as well as the latest research being conducted in the region.

The conference drew 110 participants from four countries. Costa-Pierce was the keynote speaker. He gave a talk, titled “Sustainable Development of North Atlantic Ocean Food Systems in the Anthropocene.”

In his role as executive director of UNE NORTH: Institute for North Atlantic Studies, Costa-Pierce also visited academic officials, department heads and professors at the University of New Brunswick Saint John. While there, he gave an invited talk to faculty and business leaders on the possibility of a partnership with UNE.
