Wood and Water Plein Air, an exhibition of landscape paintings by Charles Thompson, M.F.A., professor in the Department of Arts at the University of New England (UNE), will be on display at the UNE Biddeford Campus Center from October 1 to November 1, 2019.

Thompson creates his works in the plein air style, which involves painting on location outdoors. He has been a plein air landscape painter for thirty years, first painting on the streets of Philadelphia and, beginning in 1986, in Maine.

“I paint entirely from life, beginning and completing each painting on location,” Thompson shared. “By capturing these seemingly ordinary places with passion and vigor, I hope to transform these scenes into extraordinary and sensitive images for others to share in my celebration.”

Thompson’s work has been shown throughout the U.S. and Europe. He has exhibited at more than 20 solo shows and has been included in more than 100 group shows in museums and galleries.

The exhibit is free and open to the public. UNE’s Campus Center is located at 11 Hills Beach Road, Biddeford, Maine. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. For more information, contact Diane Noble by email or phone (207-284-6394).
