The event took place on May 16 to celebrate the United Nations (UN) International Day of Living Together in Peace. Smith spoke about combating dehumanization during an afternoon session titled “Living Together in Peace Means…”

The event was sponsored by the Ubuntu Academy of Leaders, a non-formal education project aimed at training young people with high leadership potential.

Smith is the author of the award-winning book “Less Than Human: Why We Demean, Enslave, and Exterminate Others.” He recently released his eighth book, “On Inhumanity: Dehumanization and How to Resist It.”
