A painting by Maine-based artist Pat Wood is on display at UNE’s Biddeford Campus Center now through Sept. 30. “Fishing Dory at Crescent Beach” depicts the quintessential Maine scene of a small fishing boat overflowing with buoys and netting.

Born and raised in Maine, Wood studied at the Massachusetts College of Art, apprenticed in Paris, and earned a teaching degree from the University of Southern Maine. Her career highlights include time spent as art director of juvenile books at the Little Brown Company; art director at Franklin Advertising Company; and art teacher at the Elan School, Saco Schools, Thornton Academy, and presently York County Senior College.

“Art is, to me, being aware of everything physical around you and communicating that to others,” Wood shared. “Teaching is a rewarding expression of that joy.”

The exhibit is free and open to the public, as is a closing reception for the exhibit on Saturday, Sept. 24, from 2 to 4 p.m.

The Campus Center is located at 11 Hills Beach Road, Biddeford, Maine. Hours for the academic year are Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Masks are optional indoors for visitors to UNE’s campuses.
