On display now through June 30 at the Campus Center in Biddeford are a series of paintings by Portland artist Dahlia K. Mann.

Mann is a painter and practicing psychologist whose interest in people and relationships filters into her artwork. Fascinated by the layers she saw on the walls of the city of Alexandria, Egypt, where she was born, Mann explores the emotional layers that the history of that city’s walls carry.

“I begin painting by creating texture, and then I paint abstractly in layers and intuitively uncover what lies within the painting,” the artist remarked. “The process is always exciting and surprising as the painting is revealed to me in color and form. Painting has continued to be my personal way of interpreting the world.”

Mann’s artwork has been exhibited in several galleries across the country, including the First Street Gallery and the Art Students League in New York City; The Tweed Gallery at Montclair State College, The Gaelen Juried Art Show at the YMHA in Whippany, New Jersey, and The New Jersey School of Visual Arts in Summit; Green Design Studio and Running with Scissors in Portland, Maine; The Old Square Art School in Delray Beach, Florida; and the Wave Gallery in Watertown, Massachusetts.

The Campus Center is located at 11 Hills Beach Road, Biddeford, Maine. Hours for the summer are Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 6 p.m.

Masks are optional indoors for visitors to UNE’s campuses.
