Photography by Paul Star on display at UNE Campus Center through March 30
Paul Star’s photo taken in Monrovia, Liberia, in January 2020 is part of a March exhibit at UNE.

Photographer Paul Star will exhibit his work at the University of New England Campus Center in Biddeford from March 2 to March 30.

A photographer of 60 years who taught courses in the liberal arts at St. Francis College and UNE, Star said his photography has evolved greatly over the years. But he believes his recent work truly captures the essence of a subject.

Star taught at St. Francis College from 1971 to 1978 and at UNE from 1990 to 2009, with a focus on the liberal arts, teaching courses in Spanish, Italian, the humanities, and communications.

Ever the teacher, Star now hopes his photography engages viewers and helps them to learn something new on a personal level.

“Basically there is always a story behind every picture. But is every story worth telling?” Star posed. “What I am attempting to do with these photographs is to tell stories that establish an emotional connection, evoke feelings, raise questions and explore larger social issues. I want these pictures to invite the viewer to fill in gaps and to connect personally with my work.”

The UNE Campus Center is located at 11 Hills Beach Road in Biddeford. The hours during the academic year are 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, and 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on the weekends.
