Christy Bergland. “Mining the Rocks at Biddeford Pool with Janice.” Graphite pencil, brown ink, watercolor collage on paper. 11 x 14’’. 2024.

An art exhibit “Mostly Maine Collage” featuring the work of Christy Bergland will be on display from June 30 through July 27 at the University of New England Campus Center on the Biddeford Campus. A reception will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on July 8 in the lobby of the Campus Center.

“Mostly Maine Collage” is largely an exhibition of two series of collages. One series features an heirloom apple tree within a simultaneous summer-and-winter environment, and an apple tree that is depicted in all four seasons at once. The second series, “Biddeford Pool Rocks and Marshes,” relates to Bergland’s Biddeford Pool studio.

The exhibit also includes the artist’s depiction of an early homesteader family in the Okefenokee Swamp in southern Georgia.

Bergland holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Maryland Institute College of Art, and a Masters of Fine Art from the University of Pennsylvania. She also was a summer participant at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine.

The UNE Campus Center is located at 11 Hills Beach Road in Biddeford. The summer hours are 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the weekends.
