Work by Darlene Trefry on display in UNE Campus Center in October

An art exhibit “Turning Tides: Healing Through Art” featuring the work of Darlene Trefry will be on display from Sep. 30 through Oct. 30 at the University of New England Campus Center on the Biddeford Campus. A reception will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 7 in the lobby of the center.

“Turning Tides” touches on the insight discovered through time in nature, as well as the inspiration found there.

“The old, dark tree represents the weight of loss, pain, and difficult seasons that have shaped a life. Yet, a small green growth emerges — a testament that healing persists even where life once seemed as though it was ending,” Trefry explained of her work in an artist statement. 

“The rough ocean signifies life's relentless movement; it reminds us that healing does not promise a sea of perpetual calm, but rather moves forward… with turbulence at times,” Trefry further explained. “This is not a polished scene, nor a simple picture. The tree remains weathered, but life breathes within it, and light pierces the darkness.”

The UNE Campus Center is located at 11 Hills Beach Road in Biddeford. The hours during the academic year are 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, and 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on the weekends.
