The University of New England is hosting an art exhibition by artist Laura B. Vickery at the University of New England Campus Center on the Biddeford Campus from May 2 to 31.

Vickery drew inspiration for the series from her time as an artist-in-residence at Ferry Beach State Park in Saco, where she captured in her paintings the park's rare tupelo trees, freshwater pond, sandy shoreline, and the wildlife that inhabits it.

“It was a joy to welcome park guests and share this amazing gem. These images depict special moments during that wonderful, rainy summer a few years ago,” Vickery said.

Vickery, a graduate of the Maine College of Art and Design with a degree in Fine Art, limits her palette to primary colors and white, believing composition is key.

When she's not painting, Vickery also creates textile work, selling both through her Etsy shop.

The UNE Campus Center is located at 11 Hills Beach Road in Biddeford. The hours during the academic year are 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, and 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on the weekends.
