About UNE’s Oral Health Center

Inclement Weather

When we are experiencing inclement weather conditions, information regarding business hours will be posted to our social media accounts or you may call (207) 221-4747 and follow the prompts. The Oral Health Center hours may vary from the University during a delayed opening and we encourage you to check before traveling for your appointment. If you have a scheduled appointment, we will contact you to reschedule once we resume regular business hours.

Receive Quality Dental Care, Support Maine Dental Students

The UNE Oral Health Center is the clinical education center for the University of New England’s College of Dental Medicine. In our state-of-the-art clinic, dental students provide comprehensive oral health care under the supervision of licensed dentists and hygienists — offering high‑quality care at reduced rates while supporting the education of Maine’s future dental professionals. We maintain all required clinic compliance policies to ensure a safe, healthy environment for our patients.

What to Expect at the UNE Oral Health Center

As a teaching clinic, there are a few important things to know about our care model, fees, and scheduling.

  • We accept patients of all ages.
  • Care is provided by dental students and supervised by licensed faculty dentists and hygienists.
  • We operate on the University’s semester system, and appointment availability is affected by academic schedules and student breaks.
  • Appointments are typically about three hours long.
  • We are a fee‑for‑service clinic, with fees generally 30%–50% lower than private practices.
  • We participate with Northeast Delta Dental and MaineCare.
  • We are not able to offer payment plans or sliding‑scale fees.

Scope of Care

The UNE Oral Health Center provides and teaches comprehensive dental care. Because of this educational model:

  • We do not accept referrals for limited or single‑procedure treatments.
  • Patients seeking care only for services such as a crown, implant, or wisdom tooth removal may not be a good fit for our clinic.

New patient appointment availability is limited each semester. Learn more about eligibility and next steps on our New Patients page.

Other Dental Care Options

  • Patients experiencing a dental emergency — such as pain, infection, or a broken tooth causing discomfort — should visit our Urgent Care Clinic.

While we do offer preventative care, patients seeking dental hygiene services (such as regular and deep cleanings) may be a better fit for our Dental Hygiene Clinic.
