By the summer of your second year, you’re upstairs in the clinic with patients. Being able to do that [so early as a student] is amazing.

There is a lot of hands-on experience early on. We had drills in our hands on the first day of clinic. UNE does a really good job in preparing you to be an independent clinician as a first-year dentist right out of the program.

I talk to friends in programs at other schools, and they haven’t even done the basics. I’m over here doing endo, full-mouth extraction, rehabilitation cases, and oral surgery.

Competence is everything, so I chose a school that allows me to continuously build my competence. I want to feel ready to see patients when that time comes.
