Market Capitalism and Popular Music

3:00 pm - 3:00 pm
St. Francis Room, Ketchum Library
Biddeford Campus
Ian Svenonius
Free and open to the public

Ian Svenonius  fronted the bands Nation of Ulysses, Weird War, and Chain and the Gang.  He is the host of the program Soft Focus – on the network VBS.  As host he interviews many of the most important figures in contemporary music on site at the Guggenheim Museum.

Svenonius is best known for bringing the ideas of liberation theology and class struggle to the realm of punk and rock music.  He is perhaps the most charismatic frontman in American music today.

Ian will give us his take on the uneasy and perhaps unsustainable relationship between the market capitalism and popular music.

He will be appearing in Portland at the Space Gallery Thursday evening (11/18). See web link for details.       http://www.space538.org/event_details.php?id=611
