UNECOM Turkey Trot 5K Race to benefit the Biddeford Free Clinic
On Saturday November 6th, the Kappa Chapter of Sigma Sigma Phi, a University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine student organization dedicated to academic excellence and community service, is holding its annual "UNECOM Turkey Trot 5k race to benefit the Biddeford Free Clinic". Now the fourth year of the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine student-organized event, the race has raised over $1500 each year to support the operation of the clinic, a non-profit organization that provides free medical and dental care to the uninsured of Southern Maine. Each year generous contributions from local businesses and volunteers from the College of Osteopathic Medicine have supported the inclusion of a post-race expo featuring music, refreshments, prizes, and health-oriented activities.
Interested runners and walkers are encouraged to learn more about the race by visiting http://sites.google.com/site/unecomturkeytrot/ or calling the Coordinator of Medical Student Services at 207-602-2329. Registration costs $18 in advance (materials available online), or $20 on the day of the race, with all race proceeds being donated to the clinic. Day-of race registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the J. Richard Martin Community Center at 189 Alfred Street, Biddeford. Race start will be at 9:00 a.m. with both the start and finish lines just outside of the community center. The 5k course winds through the surrounding neighborhood streets.
