Guest Speaker: Elizabeth Rendina-Ruedy, PhD Staff Scientist Maine Medical Center Research Institute

Education: BS: Biochemistry, Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, Oklahoma MS: Nutritional Sciences, Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, Oklahoma PhD: Nutritional Sciences, Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, Oklahoma Postdoctoral Training: Vanderbilt Center for Bone Biology, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, TN.

Research Interests: Dr. Rendina-Ruedy’s training and research has been deeply rooted in bone biology with an emphasis in nutritional biochemistry. Her current research interests include understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying the increased fracture risk associated with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. Specifically, her projects aim to develop a comprehensive understanding of how intracellular metabolic pathways impact bone health by integrating innovative lipid biology strategies. Aside from contributing to the fundamental knowledge of bone biology, the ultimate goal of these projects is to identify pathways that can be targeted for future therapies to protect diabetic patients from fracture.
